NIce location, poor maintenance Doug K. from Westbank, BC does not recommend this property. Stayed for 14 days in February, 2013 3 tv's all remotes needed batteries. We replaced them. Main tv still didn't work. I called Hawaii 50, they called a service company, the service company called me. I explained the problem, that was the end of it. no one ever called or came or left a message. We didn't really watch much tv so that was ok. The room was unit was cold. we turned up the 3 thermostats. it was still cold. We turned off the thermostats, still cold. I called Hawaii 50 to complain they called a service company. The service company did show up about 3 days later. By this time I had taped off all of the fresh air / relief air ducts in the ceiling. They were dumping cold air into the room regardless of how the thermostats were set. The temperature was manageable with these ducts taped off. I explained the situation to the service guy. He took notes but did nothing. I would expect that there are duct dampers somewhere in the building that could be closed more to control this cold air being dumped into the room. I removed the tape when I left. It was so cold, we had to take blankets from 2 beds and put them all on one in order to stay warm. The door stop in the master bedroom was just hanging there. It fell off onto the floor at some point. There were bugs in the pull out couch mattress. My daughter wouldn't sleep there after about the 3rd bug that we found.There is a minimum expectation of cleanliness and comfort that a person should be able to receive from a suite. This didn't measure up in a number of ways. Hawaii 50 was courteous and pleasant on the phone, but nothing happened after.There was no follow up. I didn't want to spend my holiday complaining and waiting for someone to fix something so after the first call and nothing happened I didn't continue complaining. I have been to Honolulu at least 10 times, stayed in a number of different places and this was the worst. Size of the suite for four of us was perfect. Good restaurants nearby, enjoyed walking to the Mall in the evenings for coffee and dessert. Only suggestions for the suite - dishwasher was out of order, had no soap for the showers, big dip in the sofa bed mattress, caulking in master bathroom vanity was messy. Otherwise liked having flatscreen TV's in all the rooms, loved the view, spacious enough for all of us to hang out and not feel crowded. Staff in the Ala Moana Hotel were all friendly and helpful. With a large group of friends staying on Maui, five of us decided to visit Waikiki for a few days to party and shop and take in the excitement. The condo was extremely comfortable, with more than enough space for all of us to come and go. One of the bedrooms had its own entrance, which was nice when the two people who stayed there were out late while another friend slept on the pull-out couch. We used the gym and the pool, both of which had attendants giving out towels, etc. Although we spent most of our time in Waikiki, the walk across the canal was not bad, and it turns out that the beach closest to our apartment was nicer anyway. I thought this apartment would be a compromise between a large, clean space for five, and an ideal location, but it was great. The staff at the front desk were very helpful with directions and there were always taxis waiting downstairs. On the last day, it was nice to leave our luggage with the concierge while we explored the city for a few more hours between checkout and the time of our flight back to Maui. An Enjoyable Stay A guest from Makati, recommends this property. Stayed for 17 days in March, 2012 Our family enjoyed the unit immensely for 17 days....great location and a spacious apartment for 4 adults. However, the bed pillows were quite old and flat as pancakes and the bed linens were threadbare. We only had one set of linens for a 2 week stay so had to launder them ourselves. I suggest you provide newer and better pillows as well as an additional set of better quality bed linens for future guests. Our daily trash was hardly collected by the hotel even if we called the housekeeping twice a day. Oftentimes, we would see the trash of the other units piling up in the corridors for 24 hours- so unsightly and unsanitary for the Ala Moana hotel. Oftentimes, we would just bring our trash to the outdoor bins by the mall just to get rid of them. The Hawaii 5-0 agent was unclear about the hotel resort fees until I asked my Honolulu banker friend to give her a personal call to clarify if we had to pay these separately as the ad said fees were included but the rental contract said otherwise. It turned out that the hotel fees were included in my daily rental so I did not have to pay any additional charge.We would definitely stay in the unit again if we visit Honolulu in the future.
