Hale Honu is an oceanfront 2 story 4bedroom 4 bath home located just South of Kailua-Kona on Alii Drive. Upstairs bedrooms include 2 mstr. suites with king beds, separate baths and large walk in showers. A 3rd bedroom with queen bed and 4th with 2 twin beds with pop up trundle beds. All have ocean views and lanai's. Downstairs is the living room, dining room, and kitchen. Doors disappear into the walls and open the living room to a spacious lanai and the feeling of being right on the water. Kitchen features granite counter tops and GE Profile appliances. Cable tv as well as high speed internet access is available with a 42" plasma screen tv. TV's also in several of the bedrooms. Included is a 14'x6'x3'wading pool & 6'x6' jacuzzi. Just minutes to snorkeling & white sandy beach.

It is fully equipped with everything needed (even a stroller, high chairs, and outlet covers). The garage is filled with sports equipment and beach gear, and the snorkeling right out the back door is great. The layout of the main floor is very open and a great place for large groups to relax, and the huge sliding doors make it feel like you are on a 5 million dollar yacht. The view from the Lanai is truly beautiful and a great place to enjoy meals. The house was clean and very well kept. Everything you need is there except for groceries.Some things I would like to see change:1. The electric gate will not open automatically when you want to leave. Someone has to push the gate button inside the entry way and then another needs to stand by the gate so it doesn't close on you before you get your car out of the garage. I don't know why a gate transmitter is not trusted to renters when the garage door opener is.2. We had an unpleasant visit from the pool boy who accused us of using the swimming pool to clean our sandy dive gear. We had to call the property manager to get him out of there. Very rude and quite insulting to be accused by a kid.3. When you exit, you are asked to put all towels and sheets in the washer and start loads. Seems to me that with a 4 bedroom house and quite a number of sheets, this should be covered in the cleaning fee. Quite strange to do laundry on the day you are leaving especially when you have an early flight.All in all, would recommend but you need to be aware of some quirks. Property Manager Response: Response from Kona Sunsets Vacation Rentals The gate at Hale Honu has 2 positions. It can close automatically or be put in lock open. It is on a 20 second delay allowing time to exit before it closes. Has been working fine for other guests.The pool boy should not have addressed the guests and he is no longer servicing this property. He found sand in the pool and diving gear nearby and assumed the guests were cleaning it in the pool.We do not ask guests to put all towels and sheets in the washer on departure day. All linens and towels from the previous night can be left as is for the cleaners. We take our reviews seriously andaddress any issues immediately. We are avilable 24/7 to answer any questions or misunderstandings regarding a guest stay at our properties. We were anxious about how the house fared. There was no hint of any damage.We stayed one week. With one exception, there was not a single aspect of our stay that did not greatly exceed our expectations. The house was in outstanding shape and thoroughly cleaned. It came fully furnished with everything we would need to enjoy the surf and beaches. The views from every room were outstanding - whales going by almost every day, purposes/dolphins(?) frolicking a hundred yards from the house. Every bedroom with a balcony! A huge kitchen fully stocked with everything to make any meal one could desire. The only glitch we failed to notice was that parties were not allowed. In retrospect, it is understandable and we found that did not get in our way - the restaurants in the neighborhood were more than accommodating.Hale Honu exemplifies the aloha spirit in every way.We hope to return some day. Pictures do not do the location justice. We saw dolphins and humpbacks every day of our stay from the many decks. The swimming and snorkling off the property beach is very good however the rocky entry/exit points would not be suitable for children or weak swimmers due to the surf. The beach a short walk away is sandy and loaded with sea turtles. Fish can be caught off the rocks using local methods. Location cannot be beat as it is close to all amenities of Kona but secluded enough for ample privacy and again, the views from everywhere in the house are spectacular. Only downside is we did not get much use out of the wading pool and hot tub as they not ideally situated (street side) but hot tub is nice for a quick warmup after swimming. Garage is well equipped with alot of extra toys and snorkling gear left behind by former renters. Help yourself to my two fishing poles!
