Brother's Cove is going down hill literally... Cynthia R. from Camden, NY does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in February, 2013 I usually never give a poor comment...but figured I should speak my mind with this LAST stay. I say last because it will be our last stay at Brother's Cove after staying with them for almost ten years. When we first started out staying there, it was top notch...the BEST! Since then it has slowly went down hill, really sad! To start with cobwebs throughout the cabin, dead flies in the corners and behind furniture, spa cover was rotted not to mention moldy undercover, Quilt in our room had white dirty spots on it (makes one wonder) that was not used, we put that aside. Our television in living-room did not work when we arrived...we called main office and was told it probably would not be fixed until Tuesday or after because of Presidents Day...well we left on Wednesday morning, and no return of anyone to fix the problem, oh, my husband and son in law ended up getting a picture and sound, but still remote didn't work. Reason for giving property location a 3, cabin to our left is getting ready to go downhill anytime...why would someone leave an eyesore like this hanging? Seeing this made the guest that were with us question if our cabin was safe or not! I could go on and on...but why? Just not clean like it use to be :( Let other guest see for themselves...what once was one of the best cabin rentals is now on our blacklist! When we arrived, it appeared that the house was only given a light cleaning. The wood floors were not properly swept and the carpeting was still not sept in most of the house. We found a pile of christmas tree needles in the middle of the main floor, smashed crackers and cookies in the carpet. We tried to vaccuum up ourselves, but the sweeper was useless. I did report this to the rental office. We were also not aware that we needed tobring our our sheets for the futon or pull out couch. Nice location and quiet. The cabin has 3 bedrooms with queen beds plus a futon on the upper landing and foldout sleeper sofa in the living room. Each bedroom had a bath with sink, toilet, & shower. The master had a jetted tub in the bedroom. Two rooms had decks off of them. There is also a half bath on the main floor by the pool table. Can get to the main areas by the paved back roads, much easier and faster than taking the main route. There was dust and spiderwebs in very obvious places and it looked like it hadn't been dusted in a while. We found a piece of a condom wrapper under our bed. There were TONS of dead ladybugs on top of one of the fans and underneath the bathroom rugs. There were dust balls in the corners of the rooms. Furthermore, we had a crazy wasp infestation. It was quite scary considering we had two little kids and a baby with us. I do realize that we were out in a natural setting and these things happen but perhaps better maintenance such as regular nest checks would be helpful. This really put a HUGE damper on our trip. We were finding them EVERYWHERE. Thank goodness we had a net to put over the baby's crib. That being said the manager was very helpful and sent over the Orkin man asap. The Orkin man was AMAZING. He indulged us, two paranoid women, and went throughout the house checking every nook until he was sure he got every last wasp. I wish I could write him a review because he was OUTSTANDING. You don't find service like that anymore. All in all, view was amazing but the whole experience was not worth the drive from Chicago. If we do come back we will probably be looking at another resort. Oh, and to top things off, we were accused of stealing the balls from the pool table. Very bizarre. Then, somehow they magically appeared. Also, we found the tip envelopes for the cleaning crew really tacky. Especially since the place was in the state that it was in. The baby ended up coming home with hand, foot and mouth virus. Stayed for 5 days in March, 2011 One of the reasons we rented a cabin was to be able to cook our own meals. We certainly expected a cabin this nice and this expensive to have decent cookware. However, we couldn't find one pot or pan that was fit to cook a meal in. They were all old, non-stick pots & pans that were so scratched up and chipped that we were afraid some of the nonstick material would wind up in our food. I'm talking "awful". We had brought a lot of food to cook at the cabin and much of it went to waste. There wasn't even a usable can opener in the kitchen. And with the cabin being so isolated it's not like we could just run down the street to buy something. You should be ashamed to charge the kind of money you charge for this cabin and not equip it properly. Then when we got rain, it poured thru the windows thru out the house. the hot tub water was green. I view was lovely.
