Description
In the heart of the Old City lies Garden Cottage, a beautiful carriage house, more than 200 years old and lovingly restored. The upper story is a studio, the perfect hideaway for two. Now you can stay here, and experience a part of St. Augustine history!


Garden Cottage is part of the Old Mansion, an eighteenth-century home at 14 Joiner Street in the wonderful Abbott Trace neighborhood. While everyone else is circling the streets to try and find parking, you can stroll to all the historic sites, fabulous restaurants, and fascinating shopping of St. Augustine's historic district! There is free, secure, off-street parking at Garden Cottage, and you're within easy walking distance of San Marco Avenue, Hypolita Street, and so much more!


Garden Cottage consists of separate upstairs and downstairs studios, each suitable for 2 people. So if you're traveling with another couple or a group of friends, consider renting both the upstairs and downstairs!


To reach the upstairs studio, you ascend an outdoor staircase that travels right up through the old-growth trees! This takes you to the back balcony, which runs the length of Garden Cottage and overlooks the beautiful garden. You'll feel as though you've gone back in time as you sit out here, overlooking the palm fronds and gazing at the landscaped grounds.


The balcony is a great spot to bring your first cup of coffee in the morning, just as the birds are beginning to sing. It's also lovely in late afternoon and evening (turn on the lamp so you can read in the balmy evening air!). And the free WiFi at Garden Cottage works out here, so bring your laptop or phone and update your social media with all the latest about your St. Augustine trip!


Step inside Garden Cottage and you find yourself in a cozy, warm-toned paneled room with a sleeping area, sitting area, kitchenette, and bath. High ceilings, exposed beams, and a big window overlooking the garden all make this room feel airy and spacious. The parquet floor is covered with soft rugs, and the furniture is appropriate to the antique feel of the space.


The queen-sized bed at Garden Cottage is set in a brass four-poster bed, very comfortable! His-and-her reading lamps cast soft light, and the view out the window is visible even from the bed.


The sitting area begins at the foot of the bed, where two matching armchairs face a 19-inch HDTV. (Historical beauty is one thing, but modern conveniences are never sacrificed here!) Another big window casts light into the space (unless you close the blinds), and an end table is the perfect resting place for glasses of iced tea and sweet snacks. What a great place to unwind after a busy day sightseeing in the Old City!


The kitchenette at Garden Cottage is compact and efficient, with the serving hatch doubling as a table for two. Here you'll find a microwave, sink, mini-fridge, and coffeemaker, plus all the dishes and utensils you need to reheat the tasty leftovers from St. Augustine's fine restaurants! (Café del Hidalgo is right around the corner, by the way.)


There is even a full bath here at Garden Cottage, with a shower, sink, shelving, and commode. We provide all the towels you need, as well as the linens, blankets, and pillows for the bed. This studio is fully stocked, so toss a change of clothes into a bag and head off to beautiful St. Augustine very soon!


From the ornate mirror in the entryway to the framed fragment of crazy quilt on the wall, Garden Cottage upstairs is a charming, heartwarming, thoroughly fascinating place to stay. It's as though you stepped on the other side of the velvet cords at a museum and started living in the exhibit . . . with modern touches that make life easier, of course! Great property with tons of character and a perfect location for accessing old town amenities. But you have to be willing to put up with a small kitchen and bathroom, poor plumbing and a very slow internet connection

It advertised WiFi, but it did not work there. Faucets difficult to shut off...they dripped. Your maintenance staff said they would recommend a repair.

The management company was very unprofessional and badly managed. My stay was quoted at least 3 different prices and I almost walked away. But because I liked what I saw of the property pictures on website, nice backyard, good location...etc. I was trying very hard to book it. They gave me false information, my name was spelling incorrectly, and now Looked where they put my city, it's Honolulu, HI, they couldn't even spell a U.S. major city??? Seriously??? But because the owner of the property, I had a great stay.But the management company should be fired!!!
