Located three miles south of the Alabama shore, you'll find a perfect beach rental on Dauphin Island, which is just 1.75 miles wide at its widest point. The wider, eastern portion of the island is shaded by thick strands of pine trees and boasts most of the private residences, vacation rentals and attractions. Places to visit include Fort Gaines, the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Audubon Bird Sanctuary, numerous public golf courses and the Estuarium: a fresh- and saltwater aquarium highlighting species native to Alabama. The fishing pier is a great spot for your family to spend the day and make some memories. It's open 24 hours a day from March - November, and offers more limited hours during the rest of the year. But don't forget your wallet back at the rental, as an admission fee is charged at the pier. If you're in the mood for adventure, charter one of the many deep sea fishing expeditions that leave from Dauphin Island. If you want to get out on the water, but aren't so sure about casting a line into the ocean, you should opt for a Dauphin Island cruise.
