Inverness is home to what is arguably one of the wackiest festivals in the country. At the end of October, the town of Inverness hosts the "Annual Great American Cooter Fest," a celebration of a turtle. Festival events include wine tasting, kayak races, turtle races, a BBQ cook off, and more! For a bit more traditional Inverness experience, take a stroll along the Walk of History, which winds through downtown Inverness with informative plaques commemorating historical buildings. Sights on the walk include a dime store built in the 1920s and the town's old bank. Cyclists visiting Inverness will want to go for a ride on the Withlacoochee Trail. Inverness is at the southern end of this 47 mile trail. From the expected Florida favorites to the totally bizarre, Inverness will be sure to have plenty of activities to please all vacationers.
