Alligator Point is home to great reserves of marine wildlife, providing a myriad of opportunities to fish and explore Floridian aquatic life. The Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratory Aquarium houses a collection of seawater tanks and aquariums that focuses on smaller, lesser known marine wildlife found in the Panhandle. The laboratory even features their version of a petting zoo, where live aquatic life can be experienced firsthand. Terrestrial wildlife can be viewed at St. Mark's Wildlife Refuge or at Cape San Blas State Park. Both are good places to hike. While Alligator Point is definitely not known for its fine cuisine, there are restaurants within a short driving distance with a decent selection, especially if it's fresh seafood you're after. In Alligator Point, the Marina Restaurant, Dave Hawkins Catering and the Alligator Point KOA fried chicken dinners are the only dining options available. A short drive to Ochlokonee Bay, Carrabelle or Panacea, FL offers a few more choices. You can also try green boiled peanuts, a local delicacy, at Buddies Boiled Peanuts which are available at road-side setups along the highway. |
