Visitors to sunny Cape Coral will want to spend as much time as possible outdoors, and with many terrific recreational options they will have no problem finding plenty to do. At Sun Splash Waterpark families can spend the day exploring the 12-acre complex complete with tunnel rides, flume rides, pools, sand volleyball pits, and more. If the water isn't enough to cool you off, there is an ice cream shop located right in the park. The 2007 season runs from March 10 through September 30, with limited operation during the spring and fall. Nature loves will want to spend a day exploring the Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve, which is open from 8 AM to sunset everyday of the year. Among other things the park has a nature trail, a boardwalk, and weekend kayak rentals from October – May. There is also excellent bird watching for a number of species including osprey, great blue heron, and burrowing owl, a tiny owl unique to the area. Town members take great pride in this special creature, even honoring it with a festival. Throughout the year there are many other festivals and theatrical performances with equally interesting themes.
