Early 2012 vacation A guest from Calgary, AB does not recommend this property. Stayed for 9 days in January, 2012 Located in a wonderful place (Wailea, Maui) one can forgive many faults. Our main issues were:1. Pool very small and crowded considering the number of condos and families a single pool would need to accomodate in a facility like the Palms.2. Layout of the property was a bit odd, with the spare bedroom being almost integrated with the living area separated by sliding slatted doors. Not alot of privacy in that regards.3. None of the family could find a bed or a sofa that was comfortable enough to get a good nights sleep on. It was almost like playing musical beds...every night trying a new one.4. Even though it was explained to us and not a surprise that there was only one AC unit in the bedroom, its ability to cool the entire house was inadequate. The view from the front window and the lanai was absolutely marvelous, although the main road (Kihea road) ran just in front of the lanai. Ultimately, we left 2 days early to stay in a hotel, just to make sure we had the proper relaxation and rest we wanted.Please keep in mind that the comfort level we desired may not be the same for other families. Loved the picture window and the view, the lanai was awesome. The things we didn't like were ants in the master bath, you could tell they spray for them because 95% were dead or dying, but lots of them. The king size bed was VERY uncomfortable and the pillows were horrid. Had to pile two or three to get your head up. We would both hurt in the morning from how hard the mattress was. I even went into the second bedroom and would lay on the smaller bed to try and feel better. If they replaced the king size mattress with a softer one we would stay here again next year. Stayed for 22 days in November, 2011 This is a comfortable, well-equipped and spacious 2 bedroom with a great water view over a sometimes noisy road. The lanai was filthy and, without a hose, was difficult to clean. Rental co. replied promptly re broken garburetor but I didn't report lanai or windows which also needed a serious cleaning. Lots of dishes but owner had locked most other cupboards so very little space to put food - a problem for a 3 week stay. Only place I've ever rented that had no placemats or table coverings. Loads of towels and lots of storage in bedrooms. Pool area small for the size of complex but not busy off-season. No cd player or ipod dock. But hey, it's Maui and easy to enjoy despite the unit's minor frustrations. For 4 people who don't mind driving or lugging beachchairs several blocks I'd consider renting the unit again. The entire Palms property and pool area are well maintained. The Condo was adequate, but would have a much better experience if the carpet would have been cleaner. There were very large spill spots on the carpet and you got very dirty feet if you walked on the carpet. The Lanai was very dirty with oversized furniture, which made it very uninviting. The lights in the main bathroom were burned out and it took 2 days to get a new bulb after it was reported. There were 2 keys inside, but only one worked in the front door and even though this was reported to the management we never did get another key - an extra key would have been nice with 4 adults in the condo. Bathrooms and kitchen were clean and there were adequate paper supplies and towels. Washer and dryer worked well. The condo only has air conditioning in the master bedroom, so the afternoons and early evening in the condo are very warm - really needed to be on top of closing the curtains facing West and opening the windows for cross breeze. My nieces and nephew really liked the pool with the jacuzzi on the side. We would watch for whales in the afternoon from the main window.Just two comments, the toilet in the master bath had a faulty valve and the water ran about half the time. Also, the screen door to the lanai was a little crooked and was difficult to open and close. Our only suggestion would be to add an air conditioner in the living room. Lovely location, big suite, lots of ants A guest from Surrey, B.C. recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in November, 2009 The location in Wailea was wonderful. Very peaceful and pretty. I dont know if I would recommend it for people with young kids as it is a bit of a walk to the beaches, shops and restaurants. We didnt mind though since we love to walk. The suite was large and nicely laid out with a view of the ocean. We were disappointed that the lanai never got a speck of sunshine so we didnt spend anytime out there like we had thought we would. The only major thing was the amount of ants. we were not surprised to find small ants in the kitchen as one would expect in that climate...however the large ants in the ensuite bathroom was a problem. We dont know where they were coming from and the problem got worse after the suite was professionally sprayed. They also closed down the pool was two whole days for cleaning. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and did not let the ants get in the way of our vacation!! Palms at Wailea #1606 Astrid S. from Snohomish, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in May, 2009 The unit was in a good location, we were able to walk to a local beach, but not to any bars or dining establishments (1-2 miles away). We felt safe since the condo is located in a nice neighborhood, quite friendly to walkers and bikers. We really enjoyed the outdoor BBQ and full sized (and equipted) kitchen. The kitchen could have used more dishes. Ther were 4 of us and we ran the dishwasher allot. The washer/dryer came in very handly. We cooked every day which saved on our food expenses and spent allot on time on the balcony. The furniture was dated, but adequate and the room layout was good. There were only a few complaints which should be noted. The only room with AC was the master bedroom. My brother and his girlfriend stayed in that room and the lack of AC did not seem to bother them. We did get use to the lack of AC after a day or 2, but the fans had to stay on constantly and the bedroom with no AC was typically warm (even w/ fans). We also noted small ants in several areas and bug spraying would likely clear up this issue as Maui is very tropical. I am sure this problem happens with most places in the islands. There was also a large tree situated adjacent to the balcony and it dropped allot of leaves when the trade winds blew (every day). The leaves were dragged into the unit when stepped upon.
