Croatia is located in Southern Europe and bordered by Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia, Herzegovnia, and the Adriatic Sea. The country is home to eight National Parks and six World Heritage Sites, which are landmarks designated by UNESCO for special care. One of these destinations, the Piltvice Lakes, holds the distinction of being both a national park and a World Heritage site. The sixteen lakes are known for their unique color, some of which are a brilliant turquoise, and amazing waterfalls. The park is also a birdwatcher's dream, with 126 species on record in the area.

The currency in Croatia is called the Kuna. A Kuna is made up of 100 lipas. As of March 2007, one Kuna was worth approximately 18 US cents, making a Croatia vacation an affordable and exotic vacation for the American traveler.
