In the water, you'll want to take a tour boat to explore the beautiful Pacific Ocean which surrounds Maui, and make sure to keep an eye out for humpback whales (whale-watching is a popular pastime in Hawaii). Other great activities in the water include scuba diving and snorkeling (equipment rentals are available and affordable), swimming, or just relaxing on the beach as the tide comes in. If you do decide to rent a car, you can take a trip on the Hana Highway, a scenic road which passes by waterfalls, mountains, lush greenery and beaches of all kinds. Make sure you plan on an overnight stay during this trek, however, as the Hana Highway has so much to see and do it's almost impossible to fit it into one day.
Maui may be smaller than the big island of Hawaii, but it's population is about the same, so you can expect all the amenities that a metropolitan area has to offer. Fine, Hawaiian dining, a great nightlife, and upscale shopping are all integral parts of Maui, so when you need a break from the beach, head to the towns. Maui vacation rentals are available now, so start browsing.
